Data Protection

Fileservers have always provided against failure of disks and other physical components, but they have more recently started to move into the wider world of data protection. Modern fileservers are capable of providing long-term data protection through a variety of methods including local and remote backup, however creation and maintenance of these extra functions creates additional management overhead for storage administrators. Standard management software provides limited visibility into these backup processes, resulting in these features remaining unimplemented in areas where they would provide significant benefit. Stringent reporting requirements for data protection further hinder use of these non-traditional but highly effective data protection systems. Storage administrators require both reporting and troubleshooting tools of the same level as available for traditional backup applications to start using fileservers’ data protection functionality to the full.

WysDM for Fileservers provides full reporting and analysis on fileserver data protection. It monitors data protection functionality such as SnapMirror and SnapVault (including Open Systems SnapVault) and provides reporting on performance as well as status of data protection operations. Reports are available on the current state and performance of SnapMirror updates, and SnapMirror configuration details are available if required. WysDM for Fileservers treats SnapVault backups as it would a backup from any other backup application, and provides the full range of data protection reports from per-job status to compliance and regulatory reporting. WysDM’s Predictive Analysis Engine monitors all of the data protection information continually to look for anomalies or inefficiencies, and alerts when data protection jobs fail or performance thresholds are breached.
