WysDM For Fileservers
Fileservers are a key part of many storage environments and are a critical part of today’s enterprise infrastructure. The rapid increase in their functionality has not been matched with additional visibility into these functions. Many fileservers were originally sold on their "black box" nature, where no user intervention was required for the day-to-day running of the system. Due to the large number of features that are available in today’s fileservers, that approach now works against them and companies need to understand the details of the fileserver’s operation. In addition, management practices that worked for one or two fileservers do not scale to ten or a hundred fileservers. The combination of the above issues requires a new approach to ensure a standard, efficient, and high-performance fileserving environment.
WysDM for Fileservers provides the visibility required to understand even the largest and most complex fileserving environments. Utilizing the WysDM adaptive architecture, WysDM for Fileservers obtains information from all NetApp filers and NearStores on the network. It uses this information to provide a comprehensive set of reports on all aspects of fileserver operation, from hardware configuration to per-process performance. WysDM for Fileservers can generate reports either interactively or to a schedule, with scheduled reports published to an intranet or sent directly via email to interested users. The WysDM Predictive Analysis Engine can analyze any information provided in a report for user-defined conditions, with resultant alerts sent via email or SNMP to the appropriate parties.
