Backup environments rarely have a single backup method. Today's data potection processes are often a combination of disk backup, tape archiving and snapshots, each used for different purposes. In addition, each of these methods may be supplied by multiple applications. However, all of this is technical detail to the business; all they want to know is how well their applications are protected. The gap between the technical and business aspects of data protection is wide, and current backup applications do nothing to lessen that gap.
WysDM for Backups provides comprehensive reporting and analysis of the data protection environment. It obtains technical details from a wide range of backup applications as well as non-traditional backup methods such as snapshots and provides a full range of reports, from per-backup details to one-line summaries. WysDM for Backups allows administrators to group hosts, or parts of hosts, in arbitrary ways such as business purpose, criticality, or physixal location. WysDM for Backups then reports against these groupings, for example providing business users with views of the protection of their application regardless of the method used to back it up. WysDM for Backups also provides the ability to send reports to the interested users on a scheduled basis so that they are always aware of the level of protection enjoyed by their applications. The Predictive Analysis Engine continually monitors backups and alerts on simple conditions such as backup failure as well as more complex business concerns such as high restore times or distant recovery points for specific applications. WysDM for Backups acts as a knowledgeable and experienced backup administrator, monitoring the data protection environment on a 24x7 basis.
