Backup administrators face a continual struggle to keep their backup environment of high enough specification to protect the entire computing environment. Data growth continues apace, and for backup administrators the feeling of running to stand still is an all-to-common one. Areas such as backup device and CPU utilization need constant attention, and the limited budgets available mean that backup administrators spend a significant amount of time working out which piece of the backup infrastructure needs to be upgraded next. The Predictive Analysis Engine continually monitors existing levels of resources and extrapolates current and historical information to provide estimates of when resources will run out, for example alerting that the backup system will run out of writable media in the next six weeks.
